letter from robinson way ?

i have received a letter form robinson way saying they are collecting a debt from choice home shopping.they say they have had the debt since 2006 but they couldnt find me i do have a choice catalogue but i have a totally different account number and i am up to date. i have spoken to choice who say they have no record of the account number and they advised me to ask robinson way the details of purchases and dates i am supposed to have purchased them.i did this and they say they have no record of any details like that and can only tell me that they have had the debt since 2006! can anyone tell me where i stand? thanks

  1. This is not legal. There must be someone else with your name who also has an account with them. You need to complain to the Credit Services Association (the trade body) on 0191 286 5656 - you could mention the case listed at this link http://www.mailonsunday.co.uk/pages/live/articles/news/news.html?in_article_id=484772&in_page_id=1770 where Wescot got the wrong person with terrible results. This should quickly stop any further action. It is a contravention of the Data Protection Act - therefore the Information Commissioner may be interested http://www.ico.gov.uk/complaints.aspx Hope this helps.
